James "Jim" Joseph Demahy
February 21, 1920 - April 11, 2014
James “Jim” Demahy, 94, of Port Arthur, died Friday, April
11, 2014, at Summer Place Nursing and Rehabilitation in Beaumont. He was born on February 21, 1920, to
Henriette Boutte’ Demahy and Rene’ Demahy in Loreauville, Louisiana. Mr. Demahy served in the United States Army
and worked as a pipe fitter for Gulf Oil for thirty-eight years. Jim enjoyed
hunting and fishing, but his biggest passion was gardening. The holidays were his favorite time of year
when he and his wife, Lydia, would cook for family and friends.
Mr. Demahy is survived by his children, Wanda Ramke of
Houston; R.J. Demahy and his wife, Diana, of Labelle; and Gail Burt and her
husband, Andy, of Spring; seven grandchildren, Melissa Barker and her husband,
Mike; Michael Ramke and his wife, Anita; Rod Demahy; Tammy LeBlanc and her
husband, Martin; Kara Bosworth; Darcie Weir; and Brad Treibel; eight
great-grandchildren, Maggie, Max, Marshal, Maddie, Matthew, Kirsten, Kaylee, and
Avery; sister, Anna Mae Burleigh; and brother, Howard Demahy and his wife,
Karen. He is preceded in death by his
wife of fifty-seven years, Lydia Demahy; sister, Alice Haley; and brothers,
Otto Demahy and William Demahy.
A gathering of Mr. Demahy’s family and friends will be from
5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April
15, 2014, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. Therese the Little Flower of
Jesus Catholic Church, 6412 Garnet Avenue, Port Arthur, with interment to
follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
