Edward "Mike" P. Miekelson

Edward
P. “Mike” Miekelson, 88, of Hamshire, died Friday, March 14, 2014. He was born
on October 25, 1925, to Vera Bazeka Mickelson and Henry Gale Mickelson, in
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and had been a resident of the Hamshire area for forty
years.
Mike
was a United States Navy and United States Air Force veteran having served in
World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam, and retired after thirty years
of military service. After retiring from the military, he worked at Northstar
Steel for twenty years. He enjoyed going back home to Pennsylvania and will be
remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and brother who enjoyed watching
football and westerns, and listening to Polka music.
Survivors
include his daughters, Jamie Rogers and Jonie Brevard and her husband, Gerald, both
of Winnie; and Jerie Gore of Fannett; son, Edward “Mikey” Miekelson and his
wife, Sarina, of Hamshire; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Howard Mickelson of San Antonio; Joseph
Mickelson and his wife, Marilyn, of Dunnellon, Florida; and Pete Mickelson and
his wife, Linda, of Pahrump, Nevada; and sister, Lillian Romero and her
husband, Gus, of Hellertown, Pennsylvania.
He
is preceded in death by his parents; wife of forty-five years, Eugenia “Bug”
Miekelson; three sisters; one brother; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
A
gathering of Mr. Miekelson’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until
8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer, Winnie.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2014, at Broussard’s,
with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
