Bennie Jane McNeill,
84, of Nederland, died February 21, 2014. Born August 9, 1929, Bennie was a native of
Shawnee Switch, Angelina County, Texas, and had resided in Nederland since
1949. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin
University and moved to Nederland to teach typing, shorthand and bookkeeping,
and later left teaching to work with her husband in their family owned
insurance agency. Bennie was a charter
member and past president of the Beta Delta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and
a member of First United Methodist Church of Nederland.
Bennie is survived by
her husband of sixty-two years, Jerry H. McNeill; daughter, Anna Carroll
McNeill; and son, Jim McNeill, all of Nederland; three grandchildren, Ashley
McNeill, Morgan McNeill and Jordan McNeill and his companion, Cara Morris; one
great-grandson, Noah McNeill; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kelly and Jack
McNeill of Houston; nephews, Rhine McNeill, Brad McNeill and his wife, Yvette,
and Jeff McNeill and his wife, Sandra; niece, Dawn McNeill; three great
nephews; and two great nieces, all of Houston. She was preceded in death by her
mother, Birdie Walker Poulan and her father, Harrison Benjamin Davis.
A gathering of Mrs.
McNeill’s family and friends will be Sunday evening, February 23, 2013, from
4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street,
Nederland. Her funeral service will be
10:00 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 123 North
13th Street, Nederland, officiated by Reverend Wayne Flowers and
Reverend Toney Miller. Burial will
follow at Oak Bluff Memorial in Port Neches.
