Rowena
Kessler, 94, of Port Arthur, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014. She was born
February 10, 1919, in Port Arthur to Myrtle Lee and Lloyd Johnston and had been
a lifelong resident of the Mid-County area. Rowena devoted her life to caring
for her family. She loved to garden and was a member of the Aurora Garden Club
for over forty years. Rowena and her husband George loved to travel and visited
many places, both in the U.S. and abroad. Her passion was spending time with
her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rowena was baptized into the
Methodist faith and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Temple.
She
is survived by her daughter, Linda Austin and her husband, Skip, of Hemphill;
son, George C. Kessler and his wife, Kim, of Fannett; grandchildren, Allison
Ross and her husband, Kevin and Cara Miller and her husband, Daniel;
great-grandchildren, Austin Ross, Hannah Ross, Tyler Frost, Caleb Frost and
Chloe Frost; and sister, Shirley Pearce.
Rowena
is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, George Kessler.
Mrs.
Kessler’s funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014, at
Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A private family
committal will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
