Coy
E. McDaniel, 73, of Port Neches, passed away peacefully in his sleep early
Sunday morning, December 29, 2013. He was a strong and determined man, who
fought for eight years against a very rare and debilitating disease,
Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD).
Coy
was born to Lois and Leon McDaniel in Dill, City, Oklahoma, on October 4, 1940.
He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1958, and worked in Houston on
highway construction earning money for college. Coy attended the University of Texas,
earning a chemical engineering degree. His career with Gulf Oil and later
Chevron began in Port Arthur in 1966, and included moves to Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, Houston, and back to Port Arthur in 1980.
Coy
and his family were active and faithful members of the Church of Christ, no
matter where they resided. At the time of Coy’s death they were members of the
Nederland Church of Christ.
He
loved vintage cars, especially the 50’s model styles and also sports. Coy was a
faithful fan of the Cowboys and the UT Longhorns. He was also a very loving
husband, father and grandfather. Coy always put his family and God first. He
was very active in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives and loved their
company.
Coy
was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Scott Michael; son, David
Scott; and sister, Linda Walworth.
He
is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter, Dawn and her husband, David; daughter-in-law,
Tammy McDaniel; granddaughters, Natalie and Kayden McDaniel; grandson, Kevin
Martin; sister, Patsy Cobb of Pasadena; and nephews, Gary Cobb of Deer Park and
Steven Cobb of Pasadena.
A
gathering of Mr. McDaniel’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a
memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014, at
Nederland Avenue Church of Christ, 2310 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, under the
direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Officiating
the services will be Mr. Ron Thompson.
A
private family committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
In
lieu of flowers, please donate to your local church congregation or charity of choice.
The
family would like to give special thanks to Coy’s caregivers with Home Instead,
Norma Avalos, Jimmyka Sanders, Sue Chopane and Clara Westbrook; and also to his
Texas Home Health Hospice nurse, Shelly Chauvin. The prayers of many over the
last years helped to sustain the family while Coy was fighting the effects of
this brain disease.
