Rose "Mose" Norma Newton

Rose
“Mose” Newton, 101, of Beaumont, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Calder
Woods, Beaumont. She was born on December 18, 1912, to Anna Federico Caro and
Samuel Caro, in Morgan City, Louisiana. Rose was a member of St. Anne Catholic
Church.
She
went to Holy Rosary School in New Orleans, Louisiana, and graduated from New
Orleans Normal School, a teaching college. She taught 2nd grade
before marrying Dr. William A. Newton on October 20, 1933. They lived for three
years in Chicago, where he went to Chicago Medical School, and then they moved
to Beaumont in 1935. They joined St. Anne’s Catholic Church, where she worked
on many committees and auxiliaries, including being a Boy Scout den mother.
Survivors
include her daughter, Mary Ann Davis of Beaumont; grandchildren, Elizabeth
Bateman of Beaumont; Barbara Leigh Coburn and her husband, John, of England;
William Atson Newton III and his wife, Mary Jo; Randall Newton; Paula Newton;
and Laura Ellen Schilling and her husband, Scott, all of Houston;
great-grandchildren, Claire Newton, Christopher Newton, Olivia Newton, Lucas
Newton, Catherine Newton, Julia Newton, Madeline Schilling, Aaron Lloyd, and
James Coburn; and other loving family members.
She
is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Atson Newton, Sr.; son, Dr.
William Atson Newton, Jr.; grandson, David Newton; and great-granddaughter,
Rebecca Rose Coburn.
A
Christian Vigil for Mrs. Newton will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2,
2014, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2014, at St. Anne
Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with interment to follow at
Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
