Iva Tidwell Walker, our beloved mom, passed away
Wednesday, October 23, 2013. She was
born on May 31, 1933, to Effie and Ernest Tidwell in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
Iva moved to Port Arthur in 1978, along with her
husband, William “Bill” Walker, where he was called to be minister to the
congregation at Proctor Street Church of Christ, which later moved to Park
Central Church of Christ. Iva was a
Sunday School teacher, and the children in her class were a joy and blessing
both then and now. She enjoyed creating
magical moments with her students using art, nature walks, songs and bible
stories.
When Iva married Bill in 1978, her life became
full of blessings as she supported him with his ministry by planning
devotionals, wedding and baby showers, children's camps, pot-luck lunches and
teaching Sunday School classes. Their
special surprise blessing was when she and daddy became parents later in
life. They both cherished every moment
with their daughter, Nicole.
Iva worked for the City of Port Arthur, a law firm
and also worked at United Way for almost twenty years before retirement. Iva enjoyed touching the lives of strangers,
friends and family with her ‘Random Acts of Kindness’. She loved nature and was in awe of God’s
beauty and grace as she sat under the shade of a tree, watched the sunset,
counted the stars, and felt the wind blowing on her face. She loved watching birds, especially her
beloved red birds, all with her dog, Baby, on her lap.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her children, Nicole
Walker; Jack “Butch” Hall and his wife, Robin; Julie Lewis and her husband,
Kevin; Teresa Kudrle and her husband, Bill; Linda Blue and her fiancé, Brad;
and her ‘like-a-son’, Marc Langley. She
was the proud MoMo of eleven grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband,
William F. Walker; parents; brothers; Oscar, Ed and Owen; and sisters; Alta and
Nova.
A
gathering of Mrs. Walker’s family and friends will be from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00
p.m., with her funeral service at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013, at
Park Central Church of Christ, 3901 Jimmy Johnson Boulevard, Port Arthur. Her committal will be handled by Broussard’s
Crematorium.
