Elta
Smith Williams, 100, of Beaumont, died peacefully at her home Wednesday, October
2, 2013, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born on November
2, 1912, in Jasper, to Kathryn Beatrice Smith and Walter Preston Smith. A
native of Jasper, Elta married Noel Douglas Williams of Newton, on September
24, 1933, and lived in Beaumont for over sixty-six years. She is
survived by her son, Noel Douglas Williams, Jr. and his wife, Martha Rutledge,
of Waco; daughter, Kathryn Williams Chauveaux and her husband, Tony, of
Beaumont; grandchildren, Noel Williams III and his wife, Kathryn; Preston
Williams and his wife, Amy; Taylor Williams and his wife, Serena; Kelsey
Chauveaux and her husband, David; and Connor Chauveaux; and seven
great-grandchildren. Elta
was preceded in death by her husband, Noel Douglas Williams, Sr. on July 23,
1982. A
gathering of Ms. Williams’ family and friends will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30
p.m., Friday, October 4, 2013, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Calder Baptist
Church, 1005 North 11th Street,
Beaumont, with Dr. James Fuller
officiating. Interment will follow at Forest
Lawn Memorial
Park, Beaumont. Serving
as pallbearers will be Noel Williams, Preston Williams, Taylor Williams, Nathan
Williams, Raleigh "Ro" Jackson, Graham Smith, Kyle Yeates, and Dave Hofferth.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Michael Smith, Jr. and Ernest Harris
Cockrell, Jr.
In lieu
of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Calder Baptist Church
Building Fund, 1005 North 11th Street, Beaumont, Texas 77702; Magnolia Garden
Club, 148 South Dowlen Road #642, Beaumont, Texas 77707; or the charity of
one’s choice.
