Troy Marshall Dodson, Sr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Baptist Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Kopperal, Texas on April 14, 1930, to Wiley Elbert and Emily Ellen Dodson, Troy lived most of his life in Beaumont, Texas.
Troy was passionate about his family, friends, church, the road construction industry he loved, and volunteering at Some Other Place. Troy was a founding member of The Beaumont Literary Guild Society (Reader). He served on the building committee for St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church.
Troy, or Snooks as he was affectionately known, was a generous and loving husband to Ida, whom he leaves to cherish his memory. He is also survived by his children, Troy Dodson, Jr. and his wife, Pam; Cindy Taylor; Julie Littlefield and her husband, David; Peggy McDonald and her husband, Johnie; and George Dodson and Jan. Troy had ten grandchildren, Shelly and Stacey Dodson; Marshall and Morgan Taylor; Emily, Clay and Aubrey Littlefield; Erin Hemmings Stutes and her husband, Kyle; and Jeremy and Jake Hemmings; along with two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His extended family, the David and Shirley Fisher family, also mourn his loss. Thank you to our extended family and friends who have helped us during this time.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, A.C., Raymond, and Vernon Dodson; and three sisters, Ireta Bynum, Edith Harper, and Bonnie McMurray.
A Rosary for Mr. Dodson will be recited at 5:00 p.m., with a gathering of his family and friends to follow, Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2013, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
