Billie Jean Harrison McDonald, 79, of Beaumont, passed away peacefully in her home on July 11, 2013, with her husband Arthur at her bedside. She was affectionately known as Maw Maw, Mom, Billie Jean, Billie, or Mrs. McDonald.

Billie Jean was born in Beaumont, Texas on March 8, 1934, to Audie and Bill Harrison. She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1952. Mrs. McDonald worked for many years in the South Park Independent School District as a secretary at Mac Arthur Junior High and then she was the Librarian at Caldwood Elementary where the Library/Media Center was named in her honor. She has been a devoted member of North End Baptist Church for almost sixty years.

Maw Maw’s greatest passions were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She would brag on them at any opportunity. She was very quick witted and loved to laugh and make others laugh. Mom loved playing games. Many hours of Bunco, Uno and Chicken Foot have been logged at her kitchen table.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-nine years, Arthur McDonald; children, Steve McDonald and his wife, Cecile; Shannon McDonald and his wife, Susan; and Michelle McDonald; loving grandchildren, Audie McDonald, Elyse McDonald, Jake McDonald, Tara Green, Connor McDonald, Colton McDonald, and Tanner Green; and great-granddaughter, Savannah McDonald.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and oldest grandson, Kevin.

A gathering of Mrs. McDonald’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

Serving as pallbearers will be Lloyd Fore, Dion Daleo, Doug Streater, and her grandsons, Jake McDonald, Connor McDonald, Colton McDonald, and Tanner Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Knupple, Joe Dan Taylor, Jerry Christopher, and John Coleman.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to North End Baptist Church Library, 5115 Eastex Freeway, Beaumont, Texas 77706.

A special thank you from Steve and Shannon goes to our sister Michelle who sacrificed daily, for over a year, during Mom’s declining health. Michelle made sure Mom, Dad and all the animals were well fed and taken care of.

To all the McDonald family.........I am so sorry to hear of Billie Jean's passing. I have so many joyful memories of the time we shared at Caldwood Elementary. She was always a bright spot in my day, full of laughter and fun. It has been years since we talked but it really seems like just yesterday. I know she will be missed dearly. My heartfelt sympathy to you all.

Arthur Steve Shannon and Michelle,

I'm so very sorry to know of your loss......to hear of Billie Jean's passing. I'm sure your hearts are heavy. I only wish I'd known of her condition earlier; I would have LOVED to have seen her one last time. Betty told Jimmy and I about her condition last weekend, when we were both in Bmt. Bless her heart, I know Betty's had a difficult year as well - she's had so much on her mind....so much to deal with. And even when she told us about BJ, I know Betty believed - at the time - that she still had much more time. So, while I wish I'd had the opportunity to see her, I'm so thankful to know she's finally at peace.....as I pray you all will know such peace in your mind and heart.

On the other hand .....
if you/we remember nothing else -- Billie Jean was one hell of a woman -- incomparable for sure....fearless, opinionated, and SO DAMN FUNNY !!!! ......and she LIVED LIFE LARGE (and, sometimes - 'loud' :-) ) every friggin' day she was here... I have many memories of her - esp her laughter. You gotta admit, BJ McDonald knew how to have a good time. And when you were with her - chances were excellent that you'd be celebrating the moment as well. All in all, maybe not a bad way to be remembered......
And finally - I feel as though I need to apologize to you all -- on my father's behalf. I know how very much he loved BJ & Arthur; I mean, sincerely - my dad genuinely cherished you guys,,,,you were family.. And, having gained access to the heavenly gates before us all, I knew John Vallie would be begging our Lord for some company fairly quickly.....starting with the people he MOST enjoyed. So you had to know that Billie Jean would be at the top of his list! Nothing against Arthur of course..... it's just, if John Vallie had to pick between the 2, I'm sure he nabbed the one who wouldn't aggravate his ears....talking incessantly about the Aggies :-).

God Bless. I love you guys....and I'll always love Billie Jean
