Funeral services for Edwin A. “Eddie” Pauler will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2004 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive in Beaumont followed by burial at Magnolia Cemetery. A gathering of his friends and family will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

Edwin August Pauler, 80, of Beaumont died December 3, 2004 at his home with his wife of fifty-three years, Wanda and his sons, Bobby and Don by his side.

Mr. Pauler was born August 1, 1924 to August Joe and Albina Barton Pauler in Schulenburg, Texas and he attended Sugarland High School and Texas A&M University. Edwin married Wanda Louise Collins on June 6, 1951and they lived in the Wharton area for several years during which his two sons were born. Mr. Pauler was transferred to Beaumont by his employer where he raised his family and lived until his death.

Mr. Pauler was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was known to his many friends as someone they could count on to help in a time of need. He had a sense of humor and was also known to play a hearty rendition of “Tuxedo Junction” and “You Are My Sunshine” on the piano when friends would visit at his home, often at the request of his friends.

Mr. Pauler was an avid outdoorsman who taught his sons not only how to hunt and fish but how to respect the property of others and to treat the outdoors with respect in doing so. He was a past president of the Gulf Coast Rod Reel and Gun Club of Beaumont. He volunteered as assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 6, Crockett Jr. High, Beaumont. Mr.Pauler’s efforts in providing for the young men in the troop were acknowledged when he was awarded the Order of the Arrow during the same summer camp as his son Don. Mr. and Mrs. Pauler were known to the friends of their sons as someone who would step in as stand-in parents, especially when their sons were attending Texas A&M University, by providing support and love, and the occasional care package.

Mr. Pauler worked for Texas Gulf Sulphur Company in Newgulf, Texas and then Beaumont for 23 years and he later retired from Lamar University.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Federico Valderama, care givers from Home Instead and Proessional Hospice for the wonderful care of Mr.Pauler during his illness.

Mr. Pauler is survived by his wife; Wanda Pauler, two sons and daughter-in-laws; Bobby and Bonnie Pauler and Don and Terrie Pauler, four grandchildren; Brian, Christopher, Rose and David Pauler, brother; George Pauler, niece and her husband; Catherine and John Peters and a great-nephew, George Allen Peters.

I had hoped to see a picture when Eddie was showing us his version of the dance - Jerk! As I recall, I nearly had to change my pants as he had us all in gut-wrenching laughter. As he emulated the dance, he stomped the floor and whaled his arms nearly to the ceiling and made some really strange expressions. What a Hoot he could be. This and others are really good memories that I will keep! Cheers, cs
