Ruth Inez David, 87, of Portsmouth, Virginia, and formerly of Groves, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Sentara Norfolk General Heart Hospital. She was born on February 19, 1926, to Pearl and Abner Richardson in Kinder, Louisiana.
She worked at Texaco Case & Package Division (Texaco Island) for many years but left to raise her children and help care for her parents. After the passing of her parents and her children were older, she worked for Port Neches-Groves Independent School District as a sweeper and retired from that position in 1992. After retiring she moved to Portsmouth, Virginia, to be closer to her children (but mostly her grandchildren).
She is survived by her husband, Douglas David, Sr.; children, Douglas David, Jr. and his wife, Carla, and Priscilla Ann David Hayes and her husband, Bill, all of Portsmouth, Virginia; and grandchildren, Nicole David, Joy David, David Hayes and Brett Hayes.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elsa Richardson and Edna Mae Brister; and brothers, Rodney Ray Richardson, Roy H. Richardson, Leonard I. Richardson and John B. Richardson.
A gathering of Mrs. David’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial park, Port Neches.
