Pete Frank Zummo, 87, passed away on February 6, 2013. He was born on November 28, 1925, in Beaumont. Pete graduated from Beaumont High School where he was one of the fastest sprinters in the state, running the 100 yard dash in 9.5 seconds. He graduated in 1944 and joined the United States Army and was severely wounded during the battle for the island of Okinawa, earning the Purple Heart. After rehabilitation and discharge from the Army, he attended Lamar Tech College, where he overcame his injuries to run track for the Cardinals. Pete graduated from Lamar in 1948 and joined his father and brothers at the Zummo Meat Company. He and his brothers grew the business from its Southeast Texas roots into the successful business it is today.

Pete married Olivia Marjorie Serafino on January 29, 1950. Always together, they lived life to its fullest. For them, everything revolved around family and friends. Their home was always open to all and full of activity. This ideal marriage grew in love and friendship for almost sixty years, until his beloved Olivia passed away in 2009.

Pete was also preceded in death by their infant daughter, Karen Ann; by his parents, Frank J. Zummo and Lena Palermo Zummo; by his sister, Mary Frances Maida; and by his brothers John, Marion and Roy Zummo.

Survivors include his son, Patrick Zummo, his wife Lisa and their children, David and Rachel; son, Gregory Zummo, his wife Lorri and their children, Taylor and Mary Ellen; son, Mark Zummo and his children, Brett, Morgan and Austin; friend Hilda Malveaux; and many relatives and friends who blessed and were blessed by his cheerful love of life.

A gathering of Pete Zummo’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2013, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

The family would like to thank everyone who has offered love and comfort to Pete over the past three years. Special thanks are due to Tammy Spiller and her staff of Loving Care Provider Services for the dedicated care they have provided to Pete through these last days. The family also thanks the many doctors and medical caregivers for their exceptional support.
