Billie P. Douglas was born in Livingston, Texas and left this earth to be with our Lord on November 21, 2012, in Houston, Texas. A native of Sour Lake since 1929, Billie lived first in Grayburg, then back and forth from Sour Lake to Nome, before moving to Pearland, Texas for the last several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sour Lake for over forty years. In that span, she taught Sunday school for both young and old, was a choir member and helped lead the music for her Sunday school class during her final years in Sour Lake. Billie married Purvis William Douglas on May 14, 1932, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Purvis and Billie owned and operated approximately 1500 acres at Green Meadow Farms outside Sour Lake nearly twenty-four years with their two sons, Ronnie and Jack Wayne, where they grew and harvested rice, soy beans, grain sorghum, and crawfish. They were married nearly sixty-six years before Purvis preceded her in death in January 1998.

Billie was the daughter of Louis and Martha Poole. Billie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lester Poole and Frank Poole; one sister, Jackie Langley; and one son, Jack Wayne Douglas, Sr.

Billie is survived by her son, Ronnie Douglas of Pearland; two brothers, Louis Poole, Jr. of San Mateo, California, and Tommy Poole of Beaumont; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Billie’s legacy of hard work, Christian kindness, and motherly love, will never be forgotten to those that she nurtured, taught, cared for, and ministered to in her ninety-eight years.

A gathering of Billie’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2012, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Sour Lake, 765 6th Street, Sour Lake, with interment to follow at Guedry Cemetery, Batson.
