Joye Wesson Hasson, 84, of Winnie, died Thursday, November 8, 2012, at The Arboretum, Winnie. She was born on April 12, 1928, in Meridian Mississippi, to Margaret and Arthur Wesson.
Joye married Vester “Mack” Hasson, Jr. on June 23, 1946, and in 1954, they moved to the Golden Triangle with their three sons. Joye was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served faithfully in every auxiliary during her lifetime, from Cub Scout Den Mother to Beaumont Stake Relief Society President. With her husband, she served a mission for the Church in Morristown, New Jersey, in the early 1990s. Additionally, they worked together for several years in the Houston, Texas Temple.
Professionally, Joye worked as a secretary in the Beaumont Independent School District, and later became the executive secretary to the Vice Chancellor at Lamar University, Beaumont. She served for a time as the president of the Southeast Texas Educational Secretaries Association. Joye volunteered with the Pink Ladies at the Winnie Medical Center, and was president of that organization for a while. She was an active volunteer for the Republican Party as well as for the Winnie Rice Festival. Joye loved to sew, play the piano, and go ballroom dancing at the Harvest Club with Mack.
Most of all, she loved her family and friends, Joye loved her sons, and they loved her! She made everyone feel comfortable, welcome, and loved. Her happiness and love of life emanated from her beautiful face, and her dimpled smile and her bright blue eyes would light up the room.
Joye is survived by her sons, Vester Hasson III and his wife, Jan Dubose Hasson, of Winnie; John Hasson and his wife, Rondee Vesterfelt Hasson, of Orem, Utah; and Wes Hasson and his wife, Ruth Hilton Hasson, of Winnie; sister, Dorothy Brown of Mississippi; grandchildren, Max Hasson and his wife, Myndie, Coulter Hasson and his wife, Amy, Heather Walls and her husband, Gary, Ethan Hasson and his wife, Ashley, David Hasson, Linda Joye Barney and her husband, Andrew, April Draper and her husband, Dave, John Hasson Jr. and his wife, Tuesdee, Kelley Hasson, Michelle Drew and her husband, Danny, Madison Hasson and his wife, Annie, Gary Hasson and his wife, Kay, Carly Hellickson and her husband, John, Devra Vierkant and her husband, David, Christian Vesterfelt and his wife, Rachael, Candice Andrus, Kari Munk and her husband, Jason, Jamie Vesterfelt, Stephanie Vesterfelt, Joscelyne Zaugg and her husband, Derrek, Daniel Hasson and his wife, Jessikah, Bill Sanford Jr. and his wife, Natalie, Constance Sloane and her husband, Spencer, Lt. Elizabeth Sanford, Jacob Sanford and his wife, Cassandra, Sgt. Paul Sanford, Matthew Sanford and his wife, Contessa, Kathryn Fernandez and her husband, Fernando; and great-grandchildren, Koplin Jenkins, Holden Jenkins, Scott Hasson, McKibben Hasson, Natalie Hasson, Lily Hasson, Joshua Hasson, Flynn Hasson, Blaze Lewis, Thorgeon Lewis, Hadley Lewis, Justin Hampton, Laura Barney, Erin Barney, Joseph Barney, Jacob Barney, Dave Draper, Adam Draper, Alice Draper, Mary Draper, Mack Draper, Alana Hasson, Savannah Hasson, Harmony Hasson, Katherine Theriot Hasson, Elizabeth Theriot Hasson, Arthur Abramowich Hasson, Maurice Drew, Tim Hasson, Lydia Hasson, David Hasson, James Hasson, Peter Hasson, Aryssa Hasson, Rylan Hellickson, Matthew Vierkant, London Vierkant, Isaac Vesterfelt, Sariah Vesterfelt, Allene Vesterfelt, Kahirn Vesterfelt, Ian Andrus, Halle Munk, Nicholas Vesterfelt, Collin Sanford, Savannah Sanford, Byron Sanford, Caroline Sanford, Sean Sanford, Ethan Embry, Billy Embry, Isabelle Embry, Avery Sloane, Liam Sloane, Lily Sloane, Sydney Sloan, Aiden Sanford, Ehryse Sanford, MaKenna Sanford, Korrigan Sanford, Arianna Sanford, Brendon Sanford, Ava Sanford, Titan Fernandez, and Nova Fernandez who will miss “Granny” greatly; and other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of sixty-five years, Vester “Mack” Hasson, Jr.; grandchildren, Kriste Vesterfelt, Ian Vesterfelt, and Gregory Sanford.
A gathering of Mrs. Hasson’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3939 Turtle Creek Drive, Port Arthur, with interment to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
