Margaret Rita Bevilacqua Bonura, age 92, of Beaumont, Texas passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012.

Margaret was born in Port Arthur, August 1, 1920, where she lived for a short time and then moved to Beaumont, where she has resided since 1928. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was a lifetime homemaker and a single parent to her three sons, 10, 9, and 8 years of age after the sudden death of her husband in 1965. She devoted herself to raising her boys and will always be remembered for being a single parent who never drove a car. She was characterized for her role as a wonderful mom by a poem given to her one Mother’s Day by her sons that described her as:

MOTHER

“To one who bears the sweetest name

And adds a luster to the same

Who shares our joys

Who cheers when sad

The greatest friend we ever had

Long life to her for there’s no other

Can take the place of our Dear Mother”

She never regretted the many sacrifices and hardships she endured for her children. Mom was passionate about her faith in God and daily prayed for the well being of her family and friends. She was a devoted Catholic Christian, who was affectionately addressed by her nickname “Maggie”.

She is survived by her sons, Mike Bonura and his wife, JoAnne; and Gerard Bonura, all of Beaumont; and Lawrence W. Bonura, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Sour Lake; granddaughter, Mandy Kay Gerber and her husband, Kory, of Sour Lake; grandsons, Lawrence William Bonura III and his wife, Crystal, of Sour Lake; and Joshua Michael Bonura and Jacob Anthony Bonura, both of Beaumont; four great-grandchildren, Hagen and Maggie Gerber, and Logan and Karsen Bonura; sister, Connie Citrano of Beaumont; brother, Sam Bevilacqua and his wife, Pat, of Beaumont; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence W. Bonura; granddaughter, Alicia Christine Bonura; parents, Salvatore Bevilacqua and Antonina Messina Bevilacqua; brothers, Joe Bevilacqua, Charlie Bevilacqua and Vincent Bevilacqua; and sister, Camile Jennie Bevilacqua.

A gathering of Mrs. Bonura's family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 4445 Avenue A, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 4445 Avenue A, Beaumont, Texas 77705.

The family sincerely thanks Dr. Daniel J, Harmon and recently, Dr. Jeremy Huff and their staff, as well as Harbor Hospice for the care given to Mom. We also thank her brothers and sisters for their help through the years.

So sorry to hear of Aunt Maggie's passing. I remember her as a strong woman who was devoted to her family and faith. I regret not being at her rosary and funeral to give her the respect she deserved. I was out of town for a over a week. You all are in my prayers.
Love,
Jo.Ann

dear Gerard, watching the video of Maggie was wonderful. it gives me a complete picture of the beautiful woman and mother she was. watching your devotion to her to the very end was heart warming and inspiring. if only all children could love their parents like that, the world would be a better place. i have the utmost respect for you and will miss seeing Maggie at the salon. i wish i had met her long ago, she is one unforgettable and special lady.

Aunt Maggie will be missed. I always enjoyed spending time with her and Aunt Camille in their home next to Grandaddy Spike's old store. I am warmed by the memories of great Italian food, friendly & loud voices :), and praying together.

I wish I could be with Aunt Maggie's family and friends today, but my thoughts are with you all.

Love,
Candice
