Sam J. Brown, 94, of Wildwood, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012, with his beloved companion of fourteen years, Betty Westcott, by his bedside. He was born on September 4, 1918, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Bessie Mae Steinman Brown and Sam Brown. Sam was a United States Army veteran having served in Korea during World War II. He loved the flag and his country and requested to be buried in his Army uniform. He served as Honor Guard with the Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group for ten years and was a life member of VFW 1514 since 1990. Sam retired from Dresser-Ideco as a foreign and domestic service manager with twenty years of service.

Sam and Betty traveled all over the United States. They took numerous cruises and loved Alaska, Canada, Nova Scotia, but their favorite was going through the locks of the Panama Canal.

He had great friends who played dominoes every afternoon at the Wildwood Pro Shop. Maybe there will be a game going on in Heaven.

Survivors include the love of his life, Betty Westcott; daughter, Linda Fair and her husband, Adrain, of Kansas; brother, Ralph Brown and his wife, Ann, of Kansas; sister-in-law, Nina Brown of Kansas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and son, Sam Brown III.

A gathering of Mr. Brown’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 7, 2012, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Wildwood-Village Mills United Methodist Church, 5943 FM 3063, Village Mills, with interment to follow at a later date in Waverly, Kansas.

My prayers and condolences are with you and your family at this time of grief. May your memories of your loved one bring you comfort, hope, strength, love, and peace in the God Jehovah. Please keep this bible scripture in mind as you grieve: “John 5: 28,29..."Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". So your father, grandfather, friend, etc. will have a chance of living forever on earth. A promise from God.
