Jewell Dowden, 95, of Nederland, died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at Mid-Jefferson Hospital in Nederland.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Broussard’s in Nederland with Rev. Clarence Powell officiating. Internment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 pm on Friday evening at the mortuary.
Mrs. Dowden was a native of Hollis, Oklahoma and liked in Nederland since 1928. he was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Nederland. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Mrs. Dowden was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dowden and her son Bill Bess; she is survived by her two daughters, Bernice Elgar and husband David of Port Neches, and Carolyn Jamail and husband Bob of Spring; five sons, Jim Dowden and wife Margaret of Nederland, Wayne Dowden and wife Myrtle of Nederland, Jerry Dowden and wife Patty of Nederland, Ralph Dowden of Katy, and Walter Russell Dowden and wife Lenora of Hamilton, Montana; twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
