Eugene Pelech 80, of Winnie, died Friday, October 7, 2011, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born June 28th, 1931, in Rosenberg Texas, son of the late Frances and Emil Pelech. Eugene attended Danbury Schools and then attended and graduated from Texas A&M University, class of 1956 with his Architectural degree. Gene was the happiest when he was designing or bringing to life to one of his dreams on paper. Gene’s second love was his ability to grow and nurture new plants and trees from all over the region, just as he did with anyone he called friend. Gene was employed by Bechtel International, where he traveled across the world and worked on many major architectural designs, including the Palace of Brunei. Gene was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Beaumont.

In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived by, one sister, Gertrude Burleson of Houston; five children, Courtnay Riley and her husband, Thomas Michael, of Fredericksburg, Russell Pelech and his wife, Olivia of Bellaire, Pamela Zemanek and her husband, Michael, of Pampa, Melissa Pearson and her husband, Patrick of Beaumont, and Michael Hillis Meek and John Cros of Lynchburg, Virginia; and five grandchildren, Madeline Lee Pelech, Katherine Zemanek, Ryan Zemanek, Carleigh Pearson, and Clark Pearson.

Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Pat Lovejoy and his son, Charles Lee (Charlie) Pelech of Houston.

His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2011, at Broussard’s.

The Pelech family would like to thank Dr. Sumalatha Patibandla and her staff as well as the staff at Altus Hospice for their love and care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Treasure House, a St. Mark’s Ministry, 805 North Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701 or in honor of Gene Pelech at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

Gertrude and Alan Houston, TX October 12, 2011
Dear Lois, Courtnay and Russell,
What can we say about mother's brother and my uncle?
Mother remembers her dad saying she had a brother and her running around telling everyone: "I've got a baby brother!"
I remember growing up with the best uncle a boy ever had.
Oh, this is so difficult. Everyone else expressed their sentiments so beautifully! He will be missed like no other, but the memories will last forever as he has a special place in our hearts.
With all our love,
Gertrude and Alan.

Uncle Eugene,

You will be tremendously missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing you. I was so happy you and Lois were able to make our wedding and be able to meet Kristen. She had heard so many good stories about you which made it great to introduce her to you. We will miss you!
