Surrounded by members of her beloved family, Anna Lee Stewart was called to be with the Lord on April 8, 2011, in Beaumont, at the age of 86. Born in Port Arthur on November 9, 1924, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1943 where she was Drum Major of the marching band. On August 30, 1947, she married Joseph C. Stewart, Sr., and they made their home in Beaumont. In later years, all her children followed in her footsteps as band members in junior and high schools. Foremost, Anna Lee was a career wife, mother and homemaker. After the kids were older, Anna Lee worked faithfully in the local community at Lamb’s, Wood’s TV, Conn’s, and then retired from Kiker Automotive. Anna Lee is the daughter of the late Albert Breaux, Sr. and Amalie Comeaux Breaux, who preceded her in death.

Anna Lee was a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Beaumont when her children were young, and was a member of Christian Fellowship Worship Center. Anna Lee enjoyed camping, fishing, and always the company of her family. She loved working with her husband in their garden of vegetables, herbs, and flowers that was so vibrant that it captured the attention of folks on Phelan Blvd. daily.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Joseph C. Stewart, Sr., her children, Joseph C. Stewart, Jr. and his wife Janice of Port Arthur, Keith Stewart and his wife Jolane of Des Moines, Iowa, and Connie Barlow and her husband Doug of Beaumont. She also cherished her grandchildren, Ken Stewart and his wife Becki of Beaumont, Jill Sandberg and her husband Stephen of Beaumont, Darren Stewart of Nacogdoches, James Stewart of Houston, Kristen Stewart of Houston, Cliff Barlow of Austin, Hilary Smith and her husband Chris of Houston, Heather Barlow of Celebration, Florida and Sky Barlow of Celebration, Florida. She also had the joy of great-grandchildren, Kendall Stewart, Parker Stewart, Kyler Harrington, Kohen Sandberg, and Isla Smith. Her four brothers predeceased her and she is survived by their remaining spouses and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2011, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with Reverend Rick White officiating. Burial will follow. A gathering of her family and friends will be Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m, at Broussard’s.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit of Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for their kind care of Anna Lee in her last days.

Dear Stewart family-
I am so saddened to hear of Anna Lee's passing. It has been almost 40 years since we were together, and I still have such fond memories of her and your entire family (in fact I had a dream Friday night and your whole family was in it- amazing).
Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers today and always.

Linda
