Lillie Mae Launey O’Fiel, 81, of Beaumont, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Christus Hospital - St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born December 9, 1929, in Iota, Louisiana to Agnes Watson Launey and Willie Launey.

Lillie took pride in decorating her home and her hobby of making “her arrangements” out of items that she would find outdoors or on one of her shopping safaris with her sisters. She was a wonderful cook, whose table always had room for anyone who came in the door. And most of all she deeply loved her three grandsons and was extremely proud of the young men that they had become. Most important in her life was her church and her faith in God.

Survivors include her sons, Monte O’Fiel and his wife Ginny of Orange and Roger O’Fiel of Beaumont; daughter, Micki Sorrel-horse and her husband James “Jim” of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and grandchildren, Joseph Tyler Safer, Sam Safer and Ben O’Fiel.

She is preceded in death by her husband of thirty four years, Joseph Edwin O’Fiel; and parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2011, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont. A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011, with a gathering of her family and friends to follow until 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, Texas 77704 or to the organization of one’s choice.

Micki, Tyler and Sam,
I am so sorry to hear of Lillie's passing. I remember when the Safer family would go Christmas Caroling and we would stop by Lillie's house and sing. She would ask me to sing "What Child Is This"; one of her favorites I would think.

She was always so good and kind to Tyler and Sam and loved them very much.

Sincerly,
Charlotte

Monte, Roger & Mickey,

I'm so sorry to hear about Lillie Mae. I would have gone to the services if I had found out in time.
You mom is one that I will never forget. Our childhoold days with her were crazy and hilarious thanks to your mom and her vitality and love for life and laughter. Mostly, I will remember all the good times we had at the beach. I remember her clowns she had in the house which were a perfect expression of how she lived life, loving to laugh and make others laugh. She was always fun and kept us all feeling so alive. All of you were like family to us. I know she will be missed greatly. God bless her soul and all of you too.
Love,
Dana McDill Edwards

I was so sorry to read in today's paper that funeral services were being held for Lillie. It had been years since I had seen or talked to her but when my late husband and I had David's Upstairs (the restaurant on eleventh) she was one of our very favorite people. My thoughts and prayers are with all her family. She was a joy to be around and I know you all will miss her terribly.
