Henry V. Barfield, 77, of Silsbee died Monday, March 21, 2011, at his residence.

He was born February 18, 1934, in Opelika, Alabama to Vernon Henry and Mable Claire Barfield. Growing up in Jackson, Mississippi Henry learned the city working his daily paper route. He was later a member of the Central High School Marine ROTC in Jackson. Upon graduation from high school, Henry attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and became a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. At the end of his freshman year in college, Henry enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany for three years. After he was discharged from the Army, he entered Mississippi College and later graduated with a business degree. He was first employed by Texaco as a sales representative and married Suzanne Ferguson. They were soon transferred to New Orleans, Louisiana. While living in New Orleans, Henry began working as a medical representative for Mead Johnson Pharmaceutical Company and moved to Memphis, Tennessee. Later Henry moved his family to Silsbee, Texas to be a part of the family owned real estate business. After many years Henry became an adult probation officer with the Hardin County Probation Department where he retired.

Henry was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church of Silsbee Men’s Bible Class, Silsbee Little Theater, Kiwanis Club, Hardin County Board of Realtors, Beaumont Board of Realtors, and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers.

Henry was a big football fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys. He also loved hunting, fishing, wild flowers, travel, and feeding wild birds and squirrels. He also loved animals, especially his dogs Buddy, Ginger, and Tootie, but most of all he loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

Henry’s family would like to thank his doctors; Dr. Timothy Colgan and Dr. Howard Wilcox for their dedicated service.

The family would also like to thank Henry’s caregivers Jeanette Dickerson, RN with Texas Home Health, Rita Dyson, and Brandy Dunn for their loving care and attentive service.

Henry is survived by his wife, Suzanne Barfield; children, Lynn Hollister, Beth Barfield Comunale and her husband Lt. Colonel Chad Comunale, William Henry “Bill” Barfield and his wife Julie, and Susan Barfield; and grandchildren, Michael Stoneham, Savannah Stoneham, Katelynn Hollister, Allyson Hollister, Madison Hernandez, Warren Barfield, Grace Barfield, and Capri Comunale.
