Max L. “Red” Lyons, 80, born in Salem, Indiana, lost his long and arduous struggle with colon cancer on the day of October, 20, 2010. Red moved to Beaumont when he was eighteen and started working at the Hub Diner as a fry cook. It is there that he met and fell in love with Polly. After many years in the restaurant business working side by side together, they started Chemax Corporation, now a thirty-seven year old Specialty Chemical and Lubricants business in which he continued to participate until the time of his death.

Red is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Polly Lyons of Beaumont; son, Dennis Lyons of El Campo; three daughters, Pam Lewis and her husband Ben of Beaumont, Becky Hinshaw and her husband Rex of Houston, and Sandy Hansen and her husband Jerry of Spring Creek, Nevada; grandson, Denny Lyons of Houston; brother, Eugene Lyons of Pleasant Mills, Indiana; along with many nieces and nephews; and his Siberian Husky, Sadie.

A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2010, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. At his request, Red will have a private memorial service and interment.

In lieu of customary remembrances, his family requests you honor Red through your support of the Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, Texas 77704 or to Texas Lions Camp, P.O. Box 290247, Kerrville, Texas 78029 or visit www.lionscamp.com.

Dear Polly, Becky, Rex, Denny, and Family

All of our memories of Red are of the very best kind. We will always remember his twinkling eyes, his engaging smile, his effervescent personality, and his keen eye for collectables. He loved his country, he loved the beach, he loved a good bargain, but most of all he loved you, his family. A life well lived is to be cherished, and that is Red. With Love,
Larry,Sandy, Julie & Michael
