Rose Mae Hartner, 91, of Nederland, passed away on June 26, 2010 at Crestview Retirement Community Nursing Home in Bryan, Texas.

A Mass of Christian burial was at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland, with Reverend David Placette officiating. Interment followed at Memory Gardens in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends was held at Broussard’s in Nederland, Texas from 5:00- 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M..

Rose was born close to Church Point, Louisiana. There were 9 children in her family. She was the fifth born child. Of the surviving siblings, all who live in Eunice, Louisiana, there is Mrs. Hazel Perkins, Mr. & Mrs. Eldredge & Leota Lantier and Mr. & Mrs. John B. & Velma LeJeune. She was married to Vorise Louis Doucet on December 8, 1935 until he passed away on February 12, 1985. They had 7 children, Raymond Doucet, Philton Doucet, Robert & Linda Doucet, David & Denise Doucet, Marie & Wallace Hebert, Jo Ann Martin and John Vorise Doucet, still born 1957.

They worked and lived in Louisiana until the fall of 1941. They moved to Texas. They eventually settled in Nederland, Texas, where all of the children attended school. Her husband Vorise worked and retired from the Pure Oil Company after 33 years.

Rose has 14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Counting Rose there are 5 generations in all. Rose later married Fred Hartner.

They were married for 6 ½ years until he passed away in June 21, 1992. She enjoyed being the step mother to all of Fred’s daughters, Juanita Wolfford, Sue Swearingen, Irene Hawkins, and Faye Langlinais and their spouses and their children.

Rose was born and reared as a Roman Catholic. Her life was centered first and foremost on her Roman Catholic Faith, attending Holy Mass as often as possible. Receiving Holy Communion represented her deep faith in the real presence of Jesus. This is where she received her strength to endure a long life of hardships and suffering.

Rose was very energetic and a hard worker. She was a very devoted wife and mother. She had great love for her family and friends. She would do anything for them. She was the spiritual leader to her love ones. Due to her influence, all are dedicated to the cause of worshiping and honoring God for His Sacrifices for the good of the world. She loved to recite her rosary as much as she could for practically any reason that touched her heart to do so.

For those who desire, floral tributes will be appreciated. They may be sent to Broussard’s Mortuary, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, Texas 77627.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 West 26th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803. The family wants to thank Crestview’s nurses, staff and management for her excellent care.

They also wants to thank Hospice of Brazos Valley, especially Nancy Baker and Denise Gilmore, for their love, kindness and commitment.
