Donald Gene Jett, 75, of Beaumont, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Summer Place in Beaumont. He suffered a stroke three and a half years ago and fought a courageous battle to recover.

Don was born December 3, 1934, in Hornbeck, Louisiana to Linnie Gaskin Jett and W. R. Jett. He graduated from Anacoco High School in Anacoco, Louisiana in 1952. After graduation he moved to Beaumont to find work. He was employed by 4th Street Auto Parts for fifteen years, when he decided to become an independent business owner. Don opened his first store, Jett’s Auto Supply in 1974. After twenty years of business, he wanted to retire and decided to close the business. During his retirement, he worked with his son Linn doing shows for Silver Etc. This was a job he truly enjoyed.

He was active in church work and Little League Baseball, Church League Softball and loved going to Louisiana to fish.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Donna Purks Jett; son, W. Linn Jett; daughter, Dalynda Jett all of Beaumont; grandchildren, Justin Jett of Austin, Jake Jett of Beaumont, and Janah Milich and her husband Adam of Beaumont; sisters-in-law, Patsy Jett and Vera Jett both of Anacoco, Louisiana; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Linnie and Riley Jett; brothers, Maxie and Bruce Jett; his daughter, Gina; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Danny Purks; and sister-in-law, Susan Welty.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2010, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of his family and friend will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Broussard’s.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Odyssey Healthcare of Beaumont, Summer Place, The Clairmont, and to Dr. William George.

Dear Mrs. Jett, Linn & DeLinda:

I just learned of Mr. Jett's passing tonight and was so sorry that I did not know. My prayer for you all as a family grieving is that you rest easier now knowing that he is in heaven and no longer enduring any pain or suffering. It seems so surreal that we have lost so many good men the past few months...your Dad, Mr. Bradley, My Father-n-Law and now my own Dad. I hope they are all meeting and recalling past times of joy in their lives as we remember all the good times we have shared with all of them. Even though we are grieving I imagine you all share the same feeling of peace that we do in knowing that he has now gone home to the life of eternity that God has promised each of us. God Bless You All and especially your Mother who has shown each of us what true love and dedication is.
