William (Bill) Hammock, 60, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010. He was born September 2, 1949, to Dalton and Lo-Dee Hammock of Beaumont, Texas.

He graduated from Beaumont High School in 1967. He had a long career in law enforcement, serving communities in Texas and Colorado, where he was the Firearms Instructor. He retired from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department after thirty years. He had recently returned to service at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

Bill was preceded in death by his father Dalton Floyd Hammock. He is survived by his mother Lo-Dee Crow Hammock of Branson, Missouri; his wife Patsy Budro Hammock of Onalaska, Texas; his sister Cheryl Hammock of DeLand, Florida; his brother Dayle Hammock and Dayle’s son Clayton Hammock of Sturgis, South Dakota, and Dayle’s daughter Laura Hammock Farrell and her husband Kevin Farrell, of Lincoln, Nebraska. Bill is also survived by his step-sons Brad Ager and Tommy Ager, Tommy’s wife Frances, and their daughters KayLeigh and Kara.

Bill was a man of faith and of kindness throughout his life. He was a man who loved his family. He gave generously of his time and strength to the care of his father Dalton and to his mother-in-law Avis in the last days of their lives. He was delighted by his niece, nephew, and grandchildren, as they were in delighted return. He was a strong teacher in his role of Firearms Instructor, preparing other officers to be safe in their work and to keep the community safe. He loved the fun he had riding his motorcycle and cooking “old family recipes!”

Memorial arrangements have been made through Broussard’s Mortuary in Nederland, Texas. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The Memorial Service in Nederland is scheduled for Thursday, April 29, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at the Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont, Texas.

A very special thank you is extended to the Sherriffs Department of Jefferson County for all they have done for the Hammock family.

I am so sorry for the loss of Sgt. Hammock. He was my instructor in 1998. I just moved back to Texas and was asking around about him and found out he had passed. He was a good man, a very good instructor. He will be greatly missed by many.

I will never forget him getting out of his little car..... =)

I was so saddened to hear about Bill. I grew up across the street from the Hammocks and went to school with Bill. He was such a nice man and I respected him and his family.

I will always have fond memories of that time. May God bless all of you.

Bill was the only one of Dear LoDee's children that we had not had the pleasure of meeting. We know he had to be an amazing man because of the family of which he was a part. LoDee and Patsy, you have been on our minds so very much. We pray that you are healing and that God has His Mighty Arms around you and is giving you peace. Love to the entire family and especially to our dear friend LoDee.
