Robert James Hunter, Jr. age 50, passed away at UTMB Galveston on April 3, 2010. Bob was born in San Diego, California on June 23, 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents Bob, Sr & Anna Scott Hunter. He was survived by his wife & best friend of 25 years Cynthia Hernandez Hunter; daughters Chrissy Hunter and Anna Hunter; step-mother Martha Hunter; sisters, Robin Hunter and Krystal Weber; mother and father-in-law Mary Hernandez Weatherford and James Weatherford; friends & brothers-in-law Louis Hernandez and wife Bernie, Roy Hernandez, Jr. and wife Judy and sister-in-law Lydia Espinosa and a host of nieces and nephews.

It is our hope, that Bob is remembered for his generosity & willingness to always do for others. He owned his own business and often donated his work for those he cared for or who needed him. His love for his wife, children, family & friends were always unconditional. Bob was not materialistically driven; he valued the important things in life like God, family and friends. He found pleasure and valued the simple things in life like nature, sunrise, sunsets, the ocean and beach.

Bobby was an avid surfer and his passion was the ocean and everything she offered. He was also passionate about Basketball. He was a basketball referee with TASO and he truly enjoyed the Little Dribblers program. Some of his fondest memories were of getting that child who never made a basket to the free-throw line in hopes they would succeed and feel proud and confident. Bob was also a gourmet cook and loved to host bar-b-que’s, crawfish boils and swimming gatherings at home. He truly enjoyed pleasing others and was a friend that you could always count on.

Our family sincerely appreciates the Groves Police Department, Medics and Life Flight for their efforts to save our husband, father, brother. A sincere thank you to those who visited called and left messages. We may not remember what you said or what you did, but we will ALWAYS remember how you made us feel. Your thoughts and prayers will see us through this. Words cannot explain how he will be missed.

A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 PM with a Christian Vigil at 7:00 PM at Broussard’s in Nederland.

At the request of family, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Robert James Hunter, Jr., Basketball Scholarship Foundation at BBVA Compass Bank Account #2525957481. Bob was simple and would appreciate your generosity to assist someone less fortunate pursue their dreams while enjoying the game of basketball, the sport that he genuinely enjoyed.

Cynthia, Anna, and Chrissy,
Martha and I were comforted to get to be with you at this sorrowful time. It is so comforting to see all of the support from all of his friends and especially your family. I know it must bring much peace to his soul as it has to mine to see how much everyone cared for him. I know you will be well taken care of in the arms of your friends and family and you know we will be there if there is ever anything we can do. I thank all of you for all of your kind and loving thoughts and prayers -- they meant so much to us. I will always see him on the next wave coming in and in every landscaped yard I will think of him with his smile and "It's all good". Thank you again.
