Jewel Manning passed from this life on March 27, 2010, at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. She was one of twelve children born to Robert and Minnie Stapp on their Latexo, Texas cotton farm. Upon completion of her education, Jewel moved to Houston during World War II and worked for Hughes Tools. After the war, she married Bert Manning, Sr. when he completed his time in the U.S. Navy. They bought a farm and settled in Belott, outside of Crockett, Texas. They soon had four children Margaret, Jan, Buddy, and Vicky.

After a few years they moved to Port Acres for work. Jewel kept the house and kids while Bert went to Highway Patrol School in Austin. Upon the completion of his school they were transferred to Winnie. Jewel was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Winnie for over fifty-five years. She was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class, served on several of the church committees and helped cook many of the meals for the church and served in any way she might be needed.

Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, and daughter, Margaret. She is survived by daughters, Jan Weisinger of Winnie and Vicky Block of Mont Belvieu; son, Buddy Manning and his wife Annette of Fannett; grandchildren, Taz Abernathy, Kelly Burkett, Travis Block and his wife Rhonda, Shawn Block, Lela Manning, Colby Manning, and Josh Weisinger; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Genest, Hannah McGee, and Hollee Block.

Jewel will be greatly missed.
