Patti Aulick Hale passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers Disease. Born July 11, 1918, in Coldsprings, Kentucky, Patti moved with her family to Los Angeles in 1926. She lived in southern California until 2005, when she moved to her daughter’s home in Vidor, Texas.

Patti was a very talented and artistic person. She loved sewing for her daughters, grandchildren and herself. She was a pretty good carpenter too! Patti especially adept at things that required a fine touch, such as intricate painting on ceramics and her hand carved dolls. She was extremely proud of the fact that she was a member of N.I.A.D.A. (National Institute of American Doll Artists), which is a very prestigious institute and was recognized by its members and doll collectors alike as one of the foremost makers of hand carved wooden dolls in the United States. Patti was a very intelligent, well read person who could discuss anything, from carpentry work to movie stars, from doll making to world politics.

Her husband of fifty-eight years, Harold M. Hale; her parents, Carey and Jessie Aulick; brothers, Carey, Jr. and Julius Aulick; sister, Leila De Arman; and beloved dogs, Dolly and Sammy preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Patsy Hale of Encinitas, California, Judy Atchison and her husband Stan of Catalina Island, California, and Janice Sutton and her husband Bob of Vidor, Texas; grandchildren, Crystal Wells, Lori Brummel, Tracey Brummel, Jesse Brummel, Randy Atchison, Ken Atchison, Hale Atchison, Jessie Atchison, Shelley Tambuluri, Michelle Lawson and Robert Sutton; seventeen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Patti was lovingly cared for by her daughter Janice during her battle with this dreaded disease. The family would like to extend special thanks to their wonderful caregiver, Gwen Smith, of Silsbee, Texas.

Cremation arrangements are being held under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont, Texas. Patti’s cremated body will be interred beside her husband’s grave in California, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 2909 W. Holcombe, Houston, Texas 77025.
