Paula Marie Salter, known and loved by all as Torchy, passed away on March 14, 2010, at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital, in Beaumont. She was born May 26, 1955, in Wautoma, Wisconsin to Wayne and LaVonne Salter.

She is survived by her beloved brother, Donavon Salter; sister-in-law, Mona Brittain; and devoted friend, Carlo Busceme III, all of Beaumont. She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Jon and Jay Salter.

Torchy was working as a fashion buyer for Gimbel’s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1981 when she was offered the position of buyer for The Fair Department Stores. She moved to Beaumont, fell in love with the city and made it her home. She later owned and operated her own boutique which bore her name, “Torchy’s” in St. Charles Plaza on Phelan Blvd.

Torchy was an active and involved member of the community and devoted countless hours to raising awareness and support for many important causes in Beaumont and beyond. She leaves a multitude of friends. Moreover she leaves a legacy of style, generosity, laughter, and boundless energy.

A memorial will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. at Calder Baptist Church, 1005 North Eleventh St., Beaumont. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to a favorite charity.

Torchy’s indomitable spirit abides. Her tireless work for good will continue to touch the lives of others for ages to come.

My dear "sister" Paula, you were always such a support and inspiration to me about what could be, and what ultimately has happened to me, is in part due to your sound advice, unwavering support, and unconditional love. I miss you so much.

We would like to extend our sympathy to Donavan and all of Paula's friends. We have known Paula for many years and always were excited to see her when she visited Wautoma and stayed at the Silvercryst. She always made us feel like family. We will miss her dearly. Tom and Cindy Sroka

Donovan, your sister sounds like a truly wonderful and kind person, whose passing has now made the world poorer. Knowing you, I trust you inherited a good share of the same personality and traits and will carry on her legacy of goodness.

I am very sorry for your loss.
