Michael Brooks Smith, 12, died on July 31, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
A loving son, brother, grandson, and friend, Michael is survived by his parents, Mike and Lynn Smith; sister, Sheridan Lynn Smith; brothers, Jordan Fraser Smith and Stephen Michael Smith all of Beaumont; his grandparents, W. C. and Lenora Smith and Brooks and Penny Boyd all of Houston; aunts and uncles, Bill Smith and wife Kathy, Charles Smith and wife Debbi, Len Smith, Brooks Boyd, Steven Boyd and wife Leslie, and Leslye Leblanc and husband Mike all of Houston, and Ursula Graham and husband Bill of St. Thomas; and cousins, Shannon, Christiana, Katie, Michelene, Will, Tanny, Courtney, Chase, Kimberly, Kelly, Ashlye, Kimberlye, and Mollye.
Michael was born on October 26, 1991, in Beaumont, Texas and attended All Saints Episcopal School for 8 years. He was blessed with a sparkle in his eye and a great sense of humor which he shared with those around him on every possible occasion. Michael showed his love for others by making them smile and laugh. His fun loving nature thrived on brightening the lives of his family, friends, and teachers through wit and playful mischief. He had a big caring heart, was deeply compassionate, and had a particular sensitivity and empathy for those less fortunate than himself. Michael related to both young and old, and possessed a certain wisdom and savvy beyond his years. The memories of love and laughter with Michael will remain in the hearts and thoughts of those who knew and adored him.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder in Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A private burial service will be held on Wednesday, August 4 at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. A gathering of family and friends will be Monday evening, August 2, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
The Smith family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at St. Elizabeth Hospital for their compassionate, steadfast, and loving care of Michael.
