Roxie, a native of Port Arthur, Texas, was born on November 14, 1926, to Willie and Pearl Sellers. She is survived by Raymond Labove whom she married August 15, 1947, beginning a loving and devoted relationship that would span fifty-seven years. Ray and Roxie had a successful life together in every aspect. She entered God’s care on Thursday, July 29, 2004. Roxie’s 77 years were filled with accomplishments. She was seldom idle, dividing her time and affection among her family and friends, and following her lifelong dedication to teaching. She retired in 1991, having taught for over forty years. Even busy in retirement, Roxie was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wildwood VFW post 1514 as Jr. Vice President. She always watched television with a crochet needle and yarn, making lap blankets for area nursing homes, and afghans for those of her family and friends lucky enough to receive the labors of love. She was an active member of the Texas Retired Teacher’s Association.
Roxie was a loving mother and best friends to her daughter Raymonette Noland, of Baytown. The long talks, phone calls, shopping trips, and home decorating projects will be sorely missed. Her son-in-law, Randy was treated and loved as a son. Their joking and banter kept everyone amused and will leave a painfully quiet space in family gatherings.
The light of Roxie’s life was her granddaughter, Jacie McWilliams, of Vidor. She and Ray spent many summers traveling with Jacie all over the states and several continents. She can take pride in helping mold Jacie into the beautiful young lady she has become, and the cherished memories of twenty-four years filled with a grandmother’s love and devotion. She spoke fondly of Jacie’s husband, Carl. She knew she could call on him whenever she needed help with “the heavy stuff”, and he would willingly and cheerfully do anything for her. Her world revolved around her brand new great grandson, Corbin Seth.
Roxie is also survived by twin sisters, Maxine Feinberg and Rexine Aubey, of Beaumont, and brother, O’Leary Sellers, of Spring.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Broussard’s, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont followed by burial in Forest Lawn Mausoleum. A Christian Vigil will be held 6:00 p.m. with a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Roxie Labove Scholarship Fund, 820 Brandywine, Beaumont, Texas 77706.
