Floyd Allen Crow, 77, of Beaumont, died Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

On March 10, 1932, during a rare snow storm in Corpus Christi, Texas, Floyd Allen Crow was born at home to Vivian Frances Crow and Floyd B. Crow. He was raised in Corpus and graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1950. In 1951 he joined the Air Force where he served until 1955; this was the beginning of his lifelong love affair with flying.

Upon discharge from the Air Force he enrolled in Del Mar College where he met his lifelong love, the former Dessie Knoblauch. Floyd and Dessie married in 1956 and moved to Beaumont where he started his thirty-five year career with Gulf States Utilities; beginning as a line pilot and becoming chief pilot for the company in 1970.

A lover of planes, cars and motorcycles, Floyd flew Lear Jets, raced cars and motorcycles. He and Dessie loved to travel and enjoyed many years of riding with dear friends in the Houston BMW Motorcycle Club.

Floyd loved his family, his friends, traveling, good food and riding his motorcycle. He had a zest for life that was contagious and a sense of humor that never failed him even during the last weeks of his life.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Floyd Crow.

He is survived by his wife, Dessie Crow of Beaumont; son, Gregg Crow and his soul mate Susan Porter of Amarillo; daughter, Carolyn Bynum and her husband Todd of Friendswood; grandchildren, Dylan and Garrett Bynum, Brandon Crow and Christina Vinzant; great grandchild, Allie Elizabeth Crow; brother, David Crow of Hutto; sisters, Deanna Crow and Jean Crow of Dripping Springs; and his aunt, Joy Denton and her husband Clarence of Amarillo.

His memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A private committal service will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium.

I regret that I was emotioally unable to speak at Floyd's memorial.
I would have told about about some the many good times &
adventures we had riding, racing, flying & double dating.
I would have talked about some of Floyd's qualities like being
one of the youngest adults I've ever met, humor, always
willing to help someone, honesty, integrity, mentoring, riding, flying, hosting & leadership skills.
Things that are important to a person says a lot about them.
Some of the things that were important to Floyd were his
family, friends, affiliation with the BMW club, receiving the
clubs exemplary service award, living life to the fullest &
his & Dessie's marriage. When Floyd spoke of Dessie, he
spoke with the utmost repsect & affection. I admired him
for that.
I am honered to be counted among Floyd's & Dessie's
many friends & one of Floyd's wing men.

Dessie, Greg and Carolyn:
Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Floyd was a wonderful man and friend. He and Jim had a lot of flight miles together and lots of wonderful memories and stories. Jim was very upset he didn't get to visit with him, we only wish we had known he was sick. We will always regret not keeping in closer contact with each of you.

May God's Blessings help you through your pain and loss.

Love, Dianne and Jim Killough
