Marie Grace Costa Shumake passed from this earthly life to her heavenly home Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at The Clairmont in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, July 29, at the mortuary.

Marie was born on November 9, 1907 to Salvatore Costa and Grace Bazile Costa in Bone Algiers, Algeria, a French province. Most of her young life was spent in New Orleans where she graduated high school at age 16. Marie then came to Beaumont and attended Chenier’s Business College after which she was employed by the O’Fiel law firm. She met Charlie Shumake and they were married on June 6, 1940. They made their home in Houston, Texas until 1972 when they both retired to Beaumont.

Although wanting a family, she and Charlie were not blessed with children, but yet leave the torch of life to many nieces and nephews, including Marie Yvonne Plaia Brunson and Salvadore Costa, both of Beaumont, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family extends grateful “thank yous” to all the staff at The Clairmont and Hospice of Texas who so lovingly cared for our precious aunt.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2909 W. Holcombe, Houston, Texas 77025.
