Sheryl, Miguel and Carlos, I will miss my cousin. I was so fortunate to have a phone conversation with Pookie just a few days ago. I could tell the weakness of his voice, but his laughter and joking were the same. It didn't matter if we hadn't seen each other for days or years...when we met up, it was like we picked up from the day before. I will always remember him coming into our home and heading for the refrigerator for frijoles and tortillas, which mom always had on hand.
It was the most difficult thing I have had to do in my life, to tell my mom that her Pookie Dookie was gone. I hope he knew how much we loved him...He always made you feel that you were important to him without saying a word, you could just see it in his eyes. He was one of a kind, and I only hope that I will leave this Life with a legacy of Kindness as he has. The packed Funeral home tonight proved that. I am so proud to say he was my family......A SOLIS.

I offer my sincerest condolences to the entire Solis family. I remember spending time with Ramon Jr during high school years and playing music with Mr. Ray and Uncle Steve. Those are some very good memories. My family will keep Uncle Steve and the entire Solis family in our prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. Words seem so empty at this time so know that you and your love ones will be in my daily Mass. Love, Brother Bernard

Sherrlyn, Miguel and Carlos - I know there is nothing I can say that will ease the pain you feel in your hearts. Steve was definately an angel sent to us from above. His smile and laughter will always remain with us. Our hearts are heavy for we cannot be there with you during your time of loss but please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Kyle now says that Uncle Steve is "playing with Jesus in Heaven now" and I know the heavens are singing even louder for they have welcomed home a very talented man!!! We will miss him dearly...

My thoughts & prayers go out to the Solis family & friends. Mr. Solis was a kind, positive & intelligent man. I am honored to have met him. May God bless you & give you comfort in this difficult time.

Esteban's life was a picture of love and devotion to his family. The pride in his children shown in his eyes. The love for his wife was always there. Thank you for sharing Esteban with the world.

Rosie, Ray, Louis, and the entire Solis Family --

There are a few people we meet in life who leave a lasting impression. Steve is one of those remarkable people. Steve, as I always called him, was a good and gentle man that was always ready to make friends, give of himself, offer a kind word, extend a hand to help, and share one of his many talents. The two things I most remember that Steve taught me were to play the guitar, even though I never learned to play anything like he could, and to be careful where I ate Mexican food, unless of course it was cooked by your wonderful Mamma Solis.

Once while in Houston, Fr. George suggested we stop on the way back to Port Arthur to eat at a popular Mexican restaurant. Steve warned not to stop, but we did. Then, when the food was served, he took a look and smell, and warned us not to eat it, but we did. Then, while Steve watched, we cleaned our plates and teased him that “just because it’s not Mamma’s home cooking, doesn’t mean you can’t eat it,” and he smiled that special smile of his. We almost did not make it home alive. We were soon so sick we only made it to Stuckey’s before having to stop. Then, while he had to drive us home, and true to his gentle nature, he did not rub it in or say, “I told you so.” I’ll never forget that day.

Rest in peace, my friend. I, like so many, was blessed to share a part of my life with you, and for that, will be forever grateful. I know where you are, and just hope I can get there too so we can meet again.

Esteban was a good man. I knew him from high school. I remember that he was one who never let the little rivalry between section 1 & 2 at football practice get personal. I am known for treating everyone, enemies, friends, and less fortunate with respect, and I learned it from his example.

Dear Esteban, ..many years has gone by without a visit from us all of Texas City. Know that i always remember your great smile and talking to me as being so funny as the way Primo Ray, is. We are far and gone on with our lives...that it was taken some moments of remembering your beloved mother,Mi Tia Emilia,that my father "Lalo" loved so much and miss dearly. Now, i gather with hope and dreams that you are joined with them,in the heavenly Kingdom of God,please,Esteban,embrace all those who have gone before us, and yes, Let them know that all was just ...Love for one another.

Mr. Solis (Pookie) was in my eyes a handsome and gentle sole that was a cousin of my best friend, Mary. I remember being in junior high and he came in to substitute for a while...all the girls in the class were in love with him : ). I knew of his vocals and talent for the guitar....his family was always so proud of him. He will be surely missed.

Steve(Esteban) you were truly a remarkable man and you will forever be missed. You were the most intelligent person I've known and you taught me that all things were possible. I love you and miss you forever more.

Sherrylln I am so sorry for you loss. You and Estebin have always had a special place in our hearts. We thought the world of Estebin. He was so kind to Mr. Solis, during his illness. You are in our prayers.

Esteban (Pookie) became an eloguent bi-lingual orator speaking on his favorite subject - his proud Mexican heritage. He also gave unforgettable eulogies in his church. He was a wonderful husband and father. The last few months through his illness he measured his life and history to me. Not least, he will mostly be remember for his musicianship and vocals of his heritage that he passed the "Solis" tradition to his sons, Miguel & Carlos. Que Dios Lo Bendiga!
