Eda Evelyn McQuilkin Moore of Beaumont passed away August 25, 2009, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. The daughter of Ethelind (Rhodes) and Elmer Mellish, she was a native of New Brunswick, Canada and was raised in Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Educated in Northern schools, for many years she was in business with her mother. Eda married her first husband, Russell McQuilkin, who was killed in Belgium during World War II. She was later employed with an interior design and decorating firm in Massachusetts, where she met and married Carl Harrison Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Moore then moved to Beaumont where they made their home.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Thweatt and her husband Ron of Beaumont, Debra Smith and her husband Steven of Jacksonville, Florida, and Michele A. Moore of Beaumont; and grandchildren, Andrea Michele Ames of Austin, twins, Wyatt and Alex Smith of Florida, and Barry Thweatt and his wife Marsha of Jarrell, Texas; and numerous cousins, family members and friends in Canada and Texas.

Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Russell McQuilkin; her second husband, Carl Harrison Moore; and her brother, Clifford Kelshaw.

Eda, known to most as “Tu Tu”, adored her family and often said how lucky she was to have three beautiful daughters. She always held a soft spot for Massachusetts and her beloved ocean, which she missed every day.

A gathering of her family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A private committal service will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 5144, Beaumont, TX 77726, or to Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, TX 77704.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to all of her nurses and friends at Texas Oncology and the nurses and staff from the 4th Southeast Floor of Christus Hospital for their tender loving care. A very special thanks to Dr. Scott A. McKenney and his nurse Kellie, Dr. Raja Chennupati, and Dr. S. Scott Kacy.

Mother, I am living daily as you wanted me to do. I am almost finished with my class that you wanted me to take. I just wanted to tell you that life is so lonely without you--however, I am taking over as surrogate mother to your kitten and we
are making it but we all miss you so much. Life will never be the same. Love, Michele,Binky Belle,Lil Bit Moore, and GiGi.
