Robert “Bob” Thomas, 67 of Nederland, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, Texas.
Funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Nederland, Texas, with Reverend Malcolm Monroe and Reverend Toney Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. A gathering of his family and friends will be held at Broussard’s in Nederland from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at Broussard's.
A native of Hall Summit, Louisiana, Mr. Thomas has lived in the Nederland area since the early sixties. Bob worked as a pipefitter at Texaco Port Neches. He enjoyed traveling and fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bob had also been very active with the Lion Club and the Optimist Club.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his son, Ashley Carlton Thomas; parents, Reverend Otis William Thomas and Lillie Florence Thomas; sisters, Ruth Willie Hanna, Vivian Bernice Gibson, and Stella Elaine Mundis; brothers, Otis William Thomas, Jr., Julian Leroy Thomas, and Joseph Hinkie Thomas.
Surviving Mr. Thomas are his wife, Peggy Jo Thomas of Nederland; son, Kirk Thomas of Nederland; daughters, Amanda Thomas Herring and husband Wesley of Devine, Texas, and Kristen Dawn Thomas of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Karma Diane Herring and Lennon Thomas Herring; sisters, Judith Ann Nichols and Viola Thomas; brothers, John Frank Thomas, Charles Lamar Thomas and L.G. Thomas.
