Janice Joiner Dupree Choate, 87, of Beaumont, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2009, at The Clairmont Nursing Home.
A longtime resident of Beaumont, Mrs. Choate was born November 23, 1921, on Crescent Farm Plantation in Houma, Louisiana. Her ancestors were of the original three hundred French families deported from Nova Scotia and brought to Louisiana. Mrs. Choate attended Hotel Dieu Nursing School and was a practicing registered nurse and a private duty nurse for many years in Beaumont.
She loved spending time with her grandsons, who still remember and treasure “MiMi’s” original bedtime stories that were created just for them. A strong, positive and Christian woman, her faith and beliefs were displayed in her daily interactions with others. When cancer invaded her body, she never complained or asked, “why me?”. Mrs. Choate was a beautiful woman and role model for her family and friends, as well as a gracious southern lady. She faced each day with a positive attitude and sense of humor.
She is survived by her only child, Charissa Choate Wells and her husband John Calhoun Wells, of Reston, Virginia and D’Hanis, Texas; and devoted grandsons, Clayton Craig Christopher and Zachary Todd Christopher, both of Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2009 at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. A gathering of her family and friends will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, 375 North 11th street, Beaumont, Texas, 77702.
