Matthew Peter Smith, 88, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.
A native of Boston, Massachusetts and resident of Beaumont for numerous years, Mat was a retired plant manager in the paint division with Mobil Chemical.
He enjoyed working with Meals on Wheels and St. Elizabeth Nursing Scholarship Program.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Patricia Smith; daughter, Carol Calhoun and her husband Jack of Beaumont; son, Pete Smith and his wife Patty of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter, Debbie Snyder and her husband Dennis of Tampa, Florida; four grandchildren, David Luke, Chris Jamison, Kristen Smith and
Matt Smith; five great grandchildren, Gabe Luke, T.J. Luke, Alice Luke, Will Jamison and Whitney Jamison; and his best friend and golfing buddy, Lee Koch.
A private family service will be held at a later date under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Broussard’s.
“If you knew Mat, he would have loved for you to go and play a round of golf in his memory”.
