Walter Eugene Meredith went to be with his Father Tuesday, April 7, 2009, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Gene was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 25, 1949. His family moved to the Beaumont area soon after that. He was a graduate and class president of the French High School Class of 1967. He was dedicated to planning their class reunions every five years. He planned seven of them with great success. He also received an associate’s degree from Lamar University. He married Peggy Pate Meredith on December 13, 1969. Gene and Peggy were blessed with two wonderful children, Jason and Gina. He was a member of Crestwood Baptist church.
Gene retired from ExxonMobil after thirty-one years of service. He truly enjoyed his job, but even more than that he loved the people he worked with and the many true friends he spent those years with. Gene was a man of honor and always put his family first. He was a great storyteller, had a quick wit, and loved making people laugh. His wit and humor will live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He loved fishing, hunting, playing golf, and his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He loved his bike even though he only got to ride it a few times.
Gene is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charles “Hoss” Pate, Sr.; and sister-in-law, Becky Pate.
Gene is survived by his father, Joe Meredith of Conroe; and mother, Beatrice Meredith of Lumberton; by his wife, Peggy; his son, Jason and his wife Kristan of Lumberton; his daughter, Gina Cox and her husband Allan of Spring, Texas; granddaughter, Gabie and grandson, Tyler both of Lumberton.
