Madeline Linn Walker died peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Lakeway, Texas, outside of Austin.
Madeline was born on November 1, 1920 in Beaumont, Texas to Cassie Meagher Linn and Charles Linn. The Linn family came to Texas in the early days of the Republic. The Linns were Irish barons who settled in Victoria, Texas. Madeline’s great-great grandfather was John J. (Juan) Linn, author of Reminiscences of Fifty Years in Texas. Madeline had one brother, Frank Linn, who preceded her in death. Madeline grew up in Beaumont, often spending summers with her paternal grandmother in New Orleans. She loved to reminisce about those times, as well as her high school years, going to dances and other activities with friends, many of whom remained lifelong support. Madeline joined with many of her friends in volunteerism with the Junior League of Beaumont.
In 1941, Madeline married the love of her life, Lonnie Walker, a descendent of the pioneering French family of Beaumont, after fifty plus years of marriage, Lonnie passed away in 1992.
Madeline’s family and faith were the two constants in her life. She spent her time in loving support of her three sons and their families. They are Clif and his wife Elizabeth of Austin, Mark and his wife Pam of Lakeway, and Scott of Houston. She cherished her grandchildren, Eric and his wife Lea, Taylor, Kevin and Hannah Walker. Madeline was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Avery Walker.
Madeline built her faith growing up as a member of the First Methodist Church in Beaumont. In 1953, she and her family joined several other families as founding members of Trinity Methodist Church. Several years ago, Madeline experienced a spiritual renewal when she took The Walk to Emmaus. Most recently, she attended services at the Lakeway Church near her home.
