Jerry W. Tompkins, 71 of Nederland, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at his residence with his family at his side.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, February 23, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Nederland with Dr. David Higgs officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday evening from 5:00-8:00 pm at Broussard's in Nederland.
Mr. Tompkins was retired from Ameripol-Synpol after 40 years working as an Operator. He loved his church and enjoyed teaching and coaching the RA's and their basketball team. Most of all he loved his family, and spent much of his time enjoying their company.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Johnney and Thelma Tompkins, daughter Stacie and brother Barney. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Tompkins of Nederland; son, Paul W. Tompkins and wife Donna of Nederland; daughter Shelley Thompson and husband Mark of Nederland; brothers, Leroy Tompkins and wife Ruth, Rodney Tompkins and wife Marion of Port Acres; sisters Linda Cherry of Nederland and Lynette Hammonds and husband Art of Chester; grandchildren, Ryan and Michael Thompson, Brittney and David Tompkins, Meagan and Brock Carlin, Rebekah and Dustin Werner; great grandchildren Jagger and Judson Carlin.
