Joseph B. “Jay” Condon, Sr. 87, of Beaumont left on his latest adventure February 16, 2009, with family wishing him safe travel. Jay—born, raised, and life time resident of Beaumont, loves to travel, see new places and learn new things. Almost as much as the travel he loves coming home to share with family and friends all he has experienced while on his journeys. The stories he paints carry you off to those wonderful places, making you yearn to visit there yourself. His travel companion, beloved wife and soul mate for fifty-nine years, Virginia Condon, stayed home this time to continue to care for their family. His children, Drusilla Kuhner and husband Heinz, and Joseph B. “Condon” Condina II and wife Denise also stayed behind to continue to celebrate their father’s legacy. Five grandchildren, Kristy Retana and husband Duval, Joseph B. Condon III, Lauren Kuhner, Tara Kuhner and Erik Kuhner all continue to celebrate his life by sharing the “Tall Tales of Paw Paw”. Jay’s sister Brenda Strong visited the day he departed, wishing him a blest journey. All of his family and numerous friends wait for the days ahead to join him and hear of his latest and greatest adventure.
Going ahead of Jay to prepare for his arrival are his parents, Bruno and Mary Grace Condon; and two brothers, Jess and Archie along with a multitude of other family members and friends.
Along with his brothers, Jay owned and operated several Beaumont businesses; Condon’s Exxon, Condon’s Rental and Condon’s Mini Storage—for over sixty years. Jay with his friendly smile, big heart, and ear for listening always offers a helping hand and kind word to his friends—as numerous as the stars. Jay, a devoted Catholic, raised his family within the Catholic faith and has been active with several of the Catholic Churches in the area.
Assisting with his final transport are grandsons, Joseph B Condon III, Erik Kuhner, and nephews, Gerald Condon, Brian Condon, Ronnie Strong, Frank DiGeorge, David DiGeorge and cousin, Jarrell Perricone.
A gathering of his family and friends will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s.
