Always looked at my uncle Howie as a guy who seemed to never be mad, always in a good mood and caring. When I first joined the Army I had to choose what branch of service to join and my decision came from following my Uncle Howie and my Father's footsteps joining the Army since I heard stories of how my Uncle Howie bravely and honorably served during WWII. I wanted to be another Gribnau to serve in combat and the thought that kept me going was to make my family proud and keep our family service to this nation going.
I have started a wall at home with pictures of all our family members who served in the military and I have quite a few of Uncle Howie. When I have kids someday and they ask about the pictures I will tell them that these are pictures of great men in our family that have served our nation so others could be safe and your Uncle Howie was one of these great men who will never be forgotten and that we should all be grateful to him. Before he was my Uncle he was a hero and I am very proud of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will miss you but will never forget you Uncle Howie. Love, Russell
