Tammie- My heart goes out to you. I wish there were some words of comfort I could give you...but the only comfort there is is time. I am so very sorry for your family's loss.

A lot of people said kind words to me after reading this eulogy I wrote for my mom. So I decided to see if I would be allowed to put it on this website.

Here goes:

If you would have asked me a year ago what I would be doing today, I would have never said I’d be doing this. I thought I’d be speaking at my mother’s memorial services a long time from now.

Mom never wanted people to speak at her funeral and say how great everything was in her life. Mom didn’t have any easy childhood. Her family did not have a lot of money. They didn’t get a lot of things, but one thing mom always told me was that her mom always had quarters for the kids to go to the movies. Mom did have some tough times in her life. She lost not only 1 but 2 children. She was also in a near fatal car wreck that caused her problems for the rest of her life. She spent the last few years of her life in and our of different doctors’ offices trying to find out what was wrong with her. From her drop foot syndrome to her hyperparathyroidism and from her osteoporosis to unfortunately her cancer all she wanted was to be well. She didn’t want to have to go to doctors anymore.

But the one thing about mom was that she never really complained. She did not want to worry me or the rest of the family. She was always concerned with more for her family than she was for herself. But that was mom, she wanted to protect us. Even through her battle with cancer she was in more pain that she let on. Pain was one of the 3 times she cried to me during her time with cancer. The others were the first day her and I found out she had cancer and she asked me if it was okay to be scared a little, and I told her she could be as scared as she wanted to be. And when she found out she was going to have to get chemo because she did not want to lose her hair. But being the strong person she is, she became comfortable with herself being bald, because she knew that is who she was now.

I will remember mom for how strong and brave she was, she persevered through some of the most unimaginable difficulties life could throw at you.
I will also remember how loving she was. She loved her kids, grandkids, Abby and the rest of the family unconditionally.
I will remember how giving she was. She would donate to almost any cause or charity, especially Saint Jude. She gave because she wanted to and never asked for anything in return.
I will remember how she cared more about someone else’s feelings more than hers. The night we found out her cancer came back; she was more concerned with how I was doing than herself.
I will remember that not matter what I liked as a kid, she got into it as well. From the Thundercats to the Ninja Turtles to the X-men, she knew just as much about them as I did. She watched Rocky III with me countless times, dad too. She watched wrestling because of me… she liked Bret Hart the best. And now, she even enjoyed my sword collecting, she even helped me pick out what I should get next. Basically if I liked it, then she liked it.
I will remember the last thing she ever said to me. One of her doctors asked her who I was. Mom looked at me in the eyes and smiled big and said “my bestest boy.” The last time she showed any acknowledged me was last Saturday. I held her hand and said “mom, its me” and she looked at me in the eyes. She really looked at my eyes; her eyes weren’t glassy as they had been that day and she groaned to tell me something. I told her that I was going to be ok and she did a good job raising me, and that if she was ready to go, then it was ok.

Mom, I am going to miss our talks, going to lunch together, you proofreading my papers, even though you had no idea what I was talking about. I am going to miss our gag gifts at Christmas. I am going to miss calling you everyday on my lunch break and coming in your room to talk to you after I got off of work, trying not to wake up dad.
I am going to miss the enjoyment you got out of life, and from your children and your grandchildren, and of course Abby. Watching softball, pageants, dancing recitals, you enjoyed anything your grandkids did. You dressed Abby like she was your little baby doll.
I am going to miss your sense of humor. Sometimes you were the only one that got it. You were one of the few people that would have been okay with me making jokes in what some would say would be inappropriate times. You would have been one of the few people that would have thought it would have been funny to buy a cookie cake for this occasion. Or you would have thought my term of “cancer juice” would have been funny. Knowing your sense of humor makes me realize that it is still ok to laugh
I am going to miss watching all the TV shows that you liked. Like 24, Prison Break, and CSI and Law and Order and even your soap operas. How will I ever hear the theme song to The Young and the Restless and not think of you. And who can forget Dancing with the Stars. I’ve never seen someone enjoy something so much, as you did with this TV show. Maybe you can watch them in Heaven.
I am even going to miss your griping about the sticky floor, or dust, or who brought leaves and mud in the house. Or how your food is never hot enough, even when your French fries still have hot oil on them. I am even going to miss you telling me repeatedly to clean my room.

People say when someone dies; you go through a range of emotions. And that I am. I am sad and upset for losing my mom. I am also relieved that mom is no longer in pain, I also feel guilty for being relieved. I am also angry. I am not angry at you, mom. I am not angry at any of the doctors for not being able to help you. I am not angry at God for not giving us a miracle and saving you. I am angry at the cancer. I am angry at the cancer for hurting you and taking you from me and your family and friends.
Watching you this past year and seeing other people with cancer, I have determined that cancer is evil. Cancer is pure, unadulterated evil. It ravages and destroys the body with no remorse. It mentally exhausts family members. And somehow cancer knows that they only effective treatments against it, will also harm the body as well. People say if the cancer doesn’t kill you than the chemo will. That is the truth… cancer kills. Mom did not die from cancer. Cancer killed her; it actively and purposely killed her.

Being that I say cancer is evil, there are some things cancer cannot do. I read this at the hospital. It is called “What cancer cannot do”:
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot destroy peace
It cannot kill friendship
It cannot suppress memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot steal eternal life
It cannot conquer the spirit

In my opinion my mom was the greatest mom there could have been. If I can be half the person she was, I will be doing pretty good. She was such a genuinely good person and by losing her, this world is actually worse off. This world has a very bleak outlook right now and we cannot afford to lose the good people. I question why mom had to get cancer, but I wouldn’t wish cancer on anyone. People say God takes the good ones, well this time, He took the best one. I hope that one day no one and no family will have to go through this. I hope that one day there is a cure for this evil disease. I will continue to donate to Saint Jude’s and I will raise money for cancer in mom’s name.
Mom, you have moved from being my guardian here to being my guardian in heaven. Mom, its time for you to be with Kevin and Joshua, your mom and dad, and all the rest of your family in heaven. I have 26 years of memories and that will have to do for now. I will try and live a good life so I can join you and everyone in Heaven.
But for now I will continue school and try to be as successful as I can be, because I know that is what you would want me to do.
I will also travel to all the places you and I both wanted to see. It will be hard to go without you, but I know you would be upset if I didn’t go.
Don’t worry, Abby is in good hands.

Even though you are no longer here physically, I know you will walk with me and guide me spiritually from this day forward. You will be there for me when I need you. You will be there for me when I am happy and sad, when I am up or down. You will be there when I graduate, again... and again, and hopefully not again. You will be there when I get married and when I have kids
All I have to do is listen and I know I will be able to hear you

I know I am forgetting hundreds of things I want to say to you in this little speech here, but you know what I would want to say.

Mom, in closing, I love you and I am going to miss you. I will think of you every day for the rest of my life. You will never be forgotten. You will live on forever in our memories and stories we pass on.

I just found out about Linda's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with her entire family. I grew up with Tammy and Robbie and was around the family all the time. She was a very sweet lady who truly loved her family. She is with her two little boys and will be the family's gaurdian angel now.

We are so sorry for your loss. We will keep you all in our prayers.
