Rozara Carden, 82, of Beaumont, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Silsbee Oaks Health Care with family members by her side. A native of Sullivan, Indiana and a resident of the area for the past forty-eight years, Rozara was a registered nurse for Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital, a school nurse for Vincent Middle School, Marshall Middle School and St. Anne Catholic School. She was also a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
Before his death in 1986, Roz and her husband Bill enjoyed traveling and loved camping at their favorite spot in the valley. They would take daily trips across the border to Matamoros, Mexico where they would buy cookies and onyx and everything else they thought was a good buy.
After her beloved husband died, she continued playing bridge with her many friends. Until April of this year, she could still play a serious game, occasionally winning a match.
Rozara is survived by her daughters, Jan Pearce and her husband Dennis of Beaumont and Myla Strohbehn and her husband Matt of Little Rock, Arkansas; son, Bill Carden, Jr. and his wife Pinky of Beaumont; sister, Myla Dedert of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Will Pearce, Lianda and Kevin Strohbehn, Polly Hixson, Katy Jefferson, Leesa Carden and Tre Carden; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Muriel Turpen; husband, William Wagner Carden, Sr.; sisters, Margaret Rice and Pat Fisher; brother, John Turpen; and grandson, Robert Warren King, Jr.
Her wishes were to be cremated as was her husband twenty-two years ago, and to be back with him at Forest Lawn.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
