Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Mr. Garrett was always such a positive role model for me and all of his students. He was always such a gentleman. I was so lucky to have known him. God bless!

David, I am truly saddened by the news of the loss of your Dad. I want you to know that as a young teacher at Groves Elementary, your Daddy had an immense impact on the teacher that I am today. He was so patient in letting me grow and becoming the teacher that he knew I could be. He gave me the room that I needed to figure it all out and also gently offered words of wisdom and solid advice when I needed it. He was kind and forgiving when I made new teacher blunders and that meant the world to me. I will always credit him with creating in me the quality standards that I hold myself to today when teaching my students. I recently won Educator of the Year and in my acceptance speech, your Daddy's name was one that I mentioned with deepest gratitude for his influence on my career. Without him, I know that I would not be the teacher I am today. He always told me, "Julie, more than the books and the facts, teaching is about the child. If you can affect a child's life in a meaningful and positive way, then you have made a difference." Your Daddy affected so many lives in meaningful and positive ways. He walked the talk. God bless you and God bless your family in this sad time. Your Daddy made a difference in my life and I praise God for having allowed me to know him. I know that somewhere in Heaven, he's sitting with a group of children around him.
