Mary Elizabeth Culp Reed passed away Friday, October 3, 2008 in Conroe, Texas, following a long illness. Her loving family was by her side. Known as Betty and later as Nonnie, she was born June 3, 1923 in Bowie, Texas. She spent most of her childhood in Decatur, Texas and was proud to be an "eighter from Decatur".
Betty devoted her life to her family and friends. Nonnie was always there for each and every child, grandchild, great-grandchild and friend. She always spoke her mind, helped however she could and left everyone around her laughing. Humor was with her to the end.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Randolph C Reed; daughter, Vivian Goodwin Wimberly; sister Opal Davis; parents Clyde and Mabel Culp; and the father of her children, Joe B Goodwin. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Goodwin Easley and Melinda Goodwin McGowan along with sons-in-law, Thomas J Easley and Michael E McGowan. She was a loving grandmother to David C Walker, Cara F Kokel, Melissa L Hanks, Robert (Bob) E McGowan, Madeleine (Molly) M Aguirre, Thomas C Easley and Ashley E Easley. Nonnie was also extremely proud of her great grandchildren, Jarrett, Jacob, Jessica, Sandra, Ryan and Lucy. Her family and many friends will miss her always. She was a great lady.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2008 at the Mortuary.
The family would like to give thanks to special caregivers Pam, Nancy, Sue, Diana, Mary and the staff of Hermann Memorial Hospital.
