Brenda Carol Brewer Salter, 54, of Silsbee went to be with the Lord on September 13, 2008 after an extended illness. She was born in Kountze, Texas on December 14, 1953 and lived most of her life in Silsbee although she did reside, for a short time, in Wesley Chapel, Florida.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 18 years, Jerry Salter and their two precious children, Nicholas, 10, and Victoria, 5, all of Silsbee; her mother and step-father, Margie and L.D. McIntyre of Silsbee; brothers, John Brewer, Jr. and his wife Mary of Bradenton, Florida and Jimmy Brewer, Charles Brewer and his wife Michelle, Harold McIntyre, and Tommy McIntyre all of Silsbee; sisters, Kathy Brewer Mitchell, Sharon Brewer Erickson, Cyndi Brewer Mitchell and her husband Chuck, and Shirley McIntyre Cook all of Silsbee, and Kristy Jones of Spurger; and a large host of extended family, friends, and church family from Freedom Fellowship. Her father, John Thomas Brewer, preceded her in death.

Brenda was such a special person. She had a lot of faith in the Lord and clung to that faith until the Lord chose to take her home. She was a loving and dedicated mother to Nicholas and Victoria and they were the driving force behind her determination to live. They brought so much joy to her life. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Jerry, and together they built a family that was dedicated to the work of the Lord. Brenda loved her church and church family at Freedom Fellowship in Silsbee. She had a great respect for her pastor and his family, Reverend and Mrs. Shannon Kilpatrick. They stood by her and her family through this entire time of illness. Brenda was not a woman of great wordly possessions. She was satisfied with simple things and with what she had. She knew that God has laid up treasures in heaven for those who live for Him. She knew that one day she would live on streets of gold!

The family of Brenda Salter would like to thank the caregivers at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Methodist Hospital Houston, UTMB Galveston, Roy Buckley and his staff at Kountze Nursing Home, Anna Tanton of Silsbee Oaks and the church family from Freedom Fellowship for all they did to provide comfort to Brenda during the time preceding her death. The family would like to especially thank Steve Cooper of Broussard’s Mortuary for his unending kindness to the Salter and Brewer family during this very difficult time. He traveled to the nursing home during Hurricane Ike to be with the family after Brenda’s death. This meant so much.

Pallbearers will be her beloved nephews, Johnny Brewer, Steven Beck, Jeremy Beck, Garrick Erickson, Michael Erickson, Blake Brewer, Jonathan Bozone, and Chad Brewer.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Brenda’s memory to Freedom Fellowship Building Fund, P.O. Box 692, Silsbee, Texas 77656.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Broussard's, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee with burial to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery in Kountze. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the mortuary.

To the family of Brenda my deepest sympathy. I worked with Brenda at Cameron Wholesale in the mill where we shared many happy times even though we were working. She was very special to me and my prayers are with you all.
