Elizabeth Ann (Libby) Blalock passed at her home on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. She was born Elizabeth Ann Abbott to L.W. and Ruth Abbott of Beaumont on November 29, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Beaumont.
Libby was a lifelong member of the Magnolia Garden Club, was active for many years in the Beaumont Junior League, and was one of the first proponents and supporters of the Big Thicket Association and Wildlife Refuge.
She was known throughout the area as a master gardener and loved nothing better than tending to her yard and advising her many friends on their own gardens. Her countless friends, many of whom preceded her in death, were the center of her life. Fun, fidelity, and loyalty were her watchwords when it came to her relationships. Her friends and family were the light of her life.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and her beloved second husband Max Blalock, who was as close a father to all as could be imagined.
She is survived by her sons from her first husband Dick Fulbright: Bill Fulbright and his wife Hayley of Alpharetta, Georgia and their daughter, Scarlett and Bill’s daughter from a previous marriage, Amethyst, Bob Fulbright of Beaumont and his children Kate and Mack, and Dr. Richard Fulbright and wife Jody of Dallas, and their children, Julia and Eric; the children of Max Blalock: daughter, Kathy Blalock Karnes and her husband Richard, sons, Scott and Andy Blalock and their spouses and children who were regular visitors throughout the years, loved her dearly and enlarged the family with sincerity and constant love; and finally, her sister, Carmen Anderson of Lake Charles, Louisiana and her children Laura, Richard, and Ellen.
She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law from her first marriage, Mack and Gloria Fulbright and their three daughters, Diane, Suzie, and Jan, along with their husbands and children. The love between Libby, Mack, and Gloria never wavered and was indicative of the loyalty that they all felt toward one another.
A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder Street, Beaumont, where she and her late husband Max were members for many years. Arrangements are under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beaumont Botanical Gardens at Tyrrell Park, 6088 Babe Zaharias Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77705.
